What does this mean for your rate per post?
The minimum wage is only the first line of your cost. On top of it you pay a reliever for 7-day posts, employer PF, ESI and bonus, uniform and your service charge, and GST goes on the bill. Where a state notifies monthly rates, the daily figure is the monthly rate ÷ 26; where it notifies daily rates, the monthly figure is the daily rate × 26.
When are the rates revised?
VDA revised on the basis of the 6-monthly average Consumer Price Index (as stated in the notifications).
What should you note about these rates?
- VDA shown is the notified total minimum rate minus the basic rate. The notifications add previous VDA and present VDA, and round fifty paise or more up to the next rupee. Notified monthly totals: security ₹13,376 skilled, ₹12,130 semi-skilled, ₹11,375 unskilled; shops and establishments ₹9,909 skilled, ₹8,860 semi-skilled, ₹8,077 unskilled.

- Both notifications say the daily rate is the monthly rate divided by 26, overtime is paid at double the ordinary rate, and (for security) the rates apply to staff employed through contractors too.
