What does this mean for your rate per post?
The minimum wage is only the first line of your cost. On top of it you pay a reliever for 7-day posts, employer PF, ESI and bonus, uniform and your service charge, and GST goes on the bill. Where a state notifies monthly rates, the daily figure is the monthly rate ÷ 26; where it notifies daily rates, the monthly figure is the daily rate × 26.
What should you note about these rates?
- Punjab fixes one set of basic minimum rates for all employments, including contract labour, so the same rows are shown for each category.
- The notified rates are basic rates that may not be split into allowances; there is no separate VDA line. The notification provides for 100% neutralisation of changes in the consumer price index.
- The notification gives daily rates of ₹518.69, ₹553.19, ₹592.84 and ₹638.50 (monthly rate ÷ 26). For deductions for absence it divides the monthly wage by 30.
- It also sets staff category rates: Category A ₹19,431, B ₹17,510, C ₹15,786 and D ₹14,406 a month.
